The members of the Joint Committee of Santorini Inhabitants for the salvage of the Sea Diamond from the bottom of Santorini's sea, on Sunday 29th of June at 11.30am at the Panthiraikou Ground. The will unfold the banner - symbol of our fight with the sign - . After the banner will be hang up in Caldera.
The fight of the movement by the Joint Committee of Santorini Citizens began on 25 January 2008. With the common objective of -
To pressure the state and the local institutions so that the Sea Diamond shipwreck is salvaged from the caldera bay.
The Greek State is obliged to constantly maintain a strict position to the polluting company (the ship-owner and the administrating companies). The company is indifferent.
It has been 16 months now and only surface pollution control has occurred.
The European Union Committee decided yesterday, after a relative proposal by the responsible Commissioner, Stavros Dimas, to resort to the European Court against Greece for not incorporating the national right of conduct concerning responsibility of causing damage to the environment (“polluting pays”).
The Greek Centre of Marine Research declares that if it is not salvaged, the whole situation will be irreversible. The Left winged parties, with their questions in Parliament and in the European Parliament, and organisations such as World Wide Fund for Nature, ask from the members of parliament to undertake immediate parliamentary action with concrete priorities. This is because the danger of further pollution exists as long as the process of removing the fuel and salvaging the ship is not conducted. Companies, reputable world wide with the technological knowledge have shown interest in undertake the salvage operation.
FROM JANUARY UNTIL TODAY WE HAVE DONE MANY MOBILISATIONS BECAUSE WE CANNOT WAIT ANYMORE AND WANTING RESULTS, WE WILL HANG UP AN ENORMOUS BANNER (50 METRES LONG AND 2.5 METRES HIGH) IN THE CALDERA BAY WITH THE SIGN “THE SEA DIAMOND SHIPWRECK WILL COME OUT BECAUSE WE ALL DEMAND IT”. We are determined that the banner and our demand be heard outside Santorini, and reaches until Brussels.
WE demand a specific timetable!
We demand that until the end of JULY 2008, they evaluate which company will undertake the UNITED WORK of SALVAGING THE SEA DIAMOND.

ΕΠΕΙΔΗ η Πολιτεία μέχρι σήμερα αντί για δραστικές ενέργειες απομάκρυνσης του ναυαγίου, εξαντλείται σε υποσχέσεις,
ΕΠΕΙΔΗ η ανέλκυση, όπως επίσημα ανακοινώθηκε, είναι εφικτή,
ΕΠΕΙΔΗ εταιρείες, παγκοσμίου φήμης και τεχνογνωσίας, ενδιαφέρθηκαν να αναλάβουν το έργο της Ανέλκυσης,
ΕΠΕΙΔΗ οι αρμόδιοι τοπικοί φορείς καθυστερούν επικίνδυνα, αφήνοντας διάχυτες υποψίες στους πολίτες για παρασκηνιακές ενέργειες και συνεννοήσεις,
ΕΠΕΙΔΗ δεν ανεχόμαστε να μας εμπαίζει κανείς, ΕΜΕΙΣ οι ΠΟΛΙΤΕΣ, που πήραμε την πρωτοβουλία να διεκδικήσουμε, με κάθε τρόπο, από την Πολιτεία την ΑΠΟΜΑΚΡΥΝΣΗ του επικίνδυνου αυτού σκουπιδιού από το νησί μας,
